Google search engine is one of the most common and famous search engines in the Internet. Although we the users almost use it everyday yet we don’t use it to its best advantage. Internet is full of billions of pages and it is sometimes difficult to get a hold of the exact needed information.
There are some tips that I came across on how to get a more productive search using Google which I thought of sharing them with you.
Tips on Google Search Syntax
Google use a special syntax to restrict your searches to certain elements or characteristics of web pages. You might want:
- To search for a specific file type, use the keyword filetype: file format. For example to find tutorials on PDF format about Linux you might want to type the syntax between the square brackets [Linux Tutorial filetype: pdf ].
- To search within a website, use the format Info site:[website URL]. For example [war site: english.aljazeera.net] which will take you to my post about Linux.
- To search an exact phrase, use the format “The Phrase”. For example ["Arabian Cuisine "].
- To search about a web page title use the format intitle:”Web Page Title”. You can also combine this with site. For instance intitle:”Technology” site:edu.
- To search about a body text in a web page use the format intext:”Body text”
That is all what I can think of at the moment, I will update this post if I find any more interesting tips
